The Australian Science Alert website reported on March 4 that an international research team of astronomers found a very young star in the formation stage near the Sagittarius A * supermassive black hole in the center of the Milky Way.
According to the report, the center of the Milky Way is basically the "Wild West" of the Milky Way. There is a supermassive black hole with a mass of 4.3 million times that of the sun. Therefore, there is the harshest environment in the galaxy.
As we know, stars around black holes may be at risk of death. If the star is too close to the black hole, it will be torn into pieces by the extreme tidal force, and become a streamer of gas and dust, thus ending life.
Imagine how surprised writers would be that day when they found that stars were forming near black holes. In fact, a star is being born near the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A * in the center of the Milky Way.
It is reported that this new celestial body, called X3a, has a history of only tens of thousands of years. Tens of thousands of years are just a blink of an eye on the time scale of the universe. However, it is so close to Sagittarius A * that its existence challenges not only our understanding of star formation, but also our understanding of the operation of black holes.
Although the dynamic intensity and strong ultraviolet and X radiation will prevent the gas from merging into the "seed" of stars, X3a not only exists, but also appears in the place where people thought it would not form stars.
Because its radius is 10 times that of the sun, its mass is 15 times that of the sun, and its luminosity is 24000 times that of the sun, it is not a petite baby star.
According to the research group led by astrophysicist Florian Pesk of the University of Cologne in Germany, the reason is relatively simple. X3a was not formed in its current location: it was formed far away from the black hole and then moved inward.
Paisk explained: "In fact, a few light-years away from the black hole, there is a region that meets the conditions for star formation. This region composed of gas and dust is cold enough, and is not affected by destructive radiation."
