On March 19, Abel Matipata, the mayor of Bambari, Central African Republic, told Russian satellite news agency that a gold mine in the central region of the Central African Republic had been attacked by armed elements, killing at least nine Chinese citizens and injuring two others. According to local media, the incident occurred on the morning of the 19th, when a group of unidentified gunmen broke into the village of Chimbolo and carried out an attack. It is reported that there is a Chinese funded enterprise in the mine.
Previously, the Overseas Chinese Consulate Office of the Chinese Embassy in Central Africa issued a reminder on March 13 that in recent months since the dry season, security incidents have occurred frequently in foreign provinces of the Central African Republic, with multiple security incidents occurring, and foreign citizens have been kidnapped by local armed elements.
In view of the current security risks in other provinces and regions, the Chinese Embassy in Central Africa once again solemnly reminds Chinese institutions and citizens traveling in Central Africa, as well as Chinese citizens intending to come to Central Africa, to strictly abide by the relevant reminders of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and our embassy, and not to travel outside the capital of Central Africa, Bangui, if unnecessary. Chinese citizens who are still outside the capital Bangui are requested to immediately report their personal information to the Embassy and increase their vigilance.
