On the afternoon of February 23, the Ministry of Defense held a regular press conference, and the spokesman of the Ministry of Defense, Colonel Tan Kefei, answered the reporters' questions.
Reporter: The director of the CIA recently said that China has ordered the PLA to prepare for the attack on Taiwan by 2027. The Assistant Secretary for Indian Pacific Affairs of the US Department of Defense said at the congressional hearing that he was sure that Chinese Mainland would not have a major "invasion" of Taiwan before 2030. The Chief of Staff of the US Air Force said that he did not believe that Chinese Mainland's "invasion" of Taiwan was imminent or inevitable. What is your comment on this?
Tan Kefei: We have noticed that the United States often makes such contradictory statements. What I want to emphasize is that Taiwan is China's Taiwan, and the solution of the Taiwan issue is the Chinese people's own business. It is up to the Chinese people to decide, without any foreign interference. No matter what the United States says, it will not change China's reunification process, nor shake our determination and will to defend national unity and territorial integrity.
"Everyone today is like a brother." The compatriots on both sides of the Straits are one family. We are willing to strive for the prospect of peaceful reunification with the utmost sincerity and effort. However, if the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities persist in pursuing "independence" provocations by engaging with external forces, blindly pushing up the confrontation between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits, and even putting Taiwan compatriots in a difficult situation, the Chinese People's Liberation Army will speak with action, take necessary measures to resolutely defeat any "Taiwan independence" separatist acts and interference by external forces, and firmly safeguard the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation and the vital interests of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.
