The Shenzhou-14 crew has made preparations for the arrival of the Shenzhou-15 crew. This is the first time for Chinese astronauts to welcome a manned spacecraft from the space station.
The Shenzhou-15 manned spacecraft and the Long March-2F-Yao-15 carrier rocket were transferred to the launch area on Nov. 21 and are scheduled to be launched soon. With the completion of the transfer, the Shenzhou-15 manned mission officially entered the final stage of preparation for the launch.
The Shenzhou-15 spacecraft will take three new astronauts to the Chinese space station. Once launched, the Shenzhou-15 manned spacecraft will dock with the forward docking port at the joint module of the Tianhe core module, which is currently the only empty docking port in the space station assembly. By then, China's space station will be a combination of "three modules" and "three spacecraft". The two Shenzhou spacecraft will work in orbit at the same time, which will be the country's first manned space program. The Shenzhou-15 and Shenzhou-14 crews will also achieve "space rendezvous", completing the first in-orbit rotation of the crew. After a short five - to 10-day rotation in orbit, the crew of Shenzhou-14 returned to the ground aboard Shenzhou-14, and the crew of Shenzhou-15 continued its mission in orbit.
